Come with us to experience the breathtaking beauty of geologic

features throughout the European Alps

This 5-credit upper division international field course gives a hands-on, on site introduction to the geology, geography and culture of the greater European Alpine region and surroundings areas, including key fossil quarries in Germany, Alpine glaciers, mineral waters, as well as the Po basin and historic Carara marble quarries north of Pisa, Italy. Understanding of alpine geological processes and their influence on society and culture play a major role in scientific advances and understandings. From the impact of climate change to montane mega-engineering projects, the European Alps offer a unique perspective on living with the dynamic ongoing processes of our planet. The educational experience will not only include an exiting 16 day geological field experience, it will also enlighten participants on the history, geography, societal impact, culture and resource economy of this very unique region.
